How to use this How to Fish game lure guide

Start with the tier you have actually unlocked, then scan the names attached to that lure. A creature appearing under two lures does not require you to force one "correct" answer; Pike and Goldfish are both listed under Basic and Beginner in the current table.

The progression tiers line up with the five-location route: basic options at the Lighthouse, Beginner around the Forest stage, Standard around the Desert stage, Professional around the Rocks, and Scientific at the Volcano. That is an equipment progression model, not a hard claim that regular fish only spawn beside one island.

Boss bait is deliberately specific

Some route encounters use named bait rather than the general boss-lure tier. The Empty Beer Can draws the Spider Crab, the Modified Leech leads to the Giant Piranha, the Carrot is tied to the Pufferfish, and the Fish Bucket is tied to the Bowhead Whale. Keep those items separate from normal lure purchases when you diagnose a stalled quest.

Other bosses use tiered boss lures: Beginner Boss Lure for The Old Pike, Standard Boss Lure for Blue Shark, Professional Boss Lure for Tuna, and Scientific Boss Lure for Goblin Shark. The community-reported Sunfish also appears on Beginner Boss Lure, but it remains labeled as a report until the primary table is updated.

Known dispute: Salmon

The current guide body puts Salmon under Standard Lure, while a recent comment explicitly says Beginner Lure. That disagreement matters because silently picking one can waste a player's time. Salmon stays in the completion count because the creature itself is guide-listed; the row keeps both lure claims visible. Database-only names that cannot be cross-checked remain excluded.
